Alpine chalet rentals - from Planete Blanche

The ski resort of Megeve is a traditional French resort. Megève is an old town that oozes charisma and traditional Alpine charm.

Very much a traditional French resort, Megève is an old

town that oozes charisma and traditional Alpine charm.

It boasts gastronomic delights, as well as some of the most

varied nightlife of any Alpine venue: clubs, concerts, ice

shows and a casino. The centre is pedestrianised around the

13th century church, with interesting narrow streets to

explore and a wide variety of boutiques, delicatessens, bars

and restaurants. It is mainly a French resort, although more

overseas visitors are starting to discover its charms. There

are no huge hotels and the resort does not cater for the mass

  market.

Megeve can lay claim to being the first French purpose-built ski resort - although the predominant style of picturesque wooden chalets is very different to the styles used in the more modern French resorts. It also remains one of the most charming and traditional resorts in the French Alps. It's location, just an hour from Geneva, attracts many skiers looking for a short ski break or a ski weekend and is fast becoming one of Europe's top winter ski destinations. The resort is famous for it's luxury hotels, it's chic boutiques, friendly bars and fine dining restaurants, including Marc Veyrat's 3 star Michelin restaurant 'La Ferme de Mon Pere' and Emmanuel Renault's two star Michelin restaurant 'le Flocons de sel'.

Originally modeled on St Moritz and built in the

1920's, the charming town soon became a popular

meeting place for the rich and famous. In the 1950's

Megeve well known to the world's elite and today

continues to attract an international clientele.

Although the jet-set may have moved on, Megeve's

charm remains and still attracts a good number of

visitors. The town has maintained its country Haute Savoie character despite the modernization of its surrounding areas. Megeve's quaint pedestrian zone with boutiques and cafes beckons for an afternoon shopping stroll, followed by a delicious cappuccino coffee with French pastry. New building and improvements have been carried out in line with the style and atmosphere of the original village - even the McDonalds is quaint!
The ski area is vast, with a variety of runs to suit all abilities. Megeve's 3 mountains (Rochebrune, Mont d'Arbois, Jailet) offer 124 well groomed slopes, served by 81 lifts, with snowmaking on major slopes leading to the resort. Choose between the World Cup downhill run bumps or cruising terrain, Megeve has something for every ability.
With 325km of groomed pistes, Megeve offers superb skiing and snowboarding for all levels and is the ideal resort for groups of mixed skiing abilities, there is something for everyone, from long cruisy greens to exciting off piste blacks. The quality and choice of mountain restaurants is impressive and regarded by some as the best in the Alps.
The village of St.Gervais, which forms part of the Megeve skiing area, is a charming, traditional village, with its own thermal springs.

  Whether you choose self-catering skiing

holidays, a catered chalet or a hotel, skiing

in Megeve is an unforgettable experience.
